An Enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Global Router for VLSI Design

Global routing is a crucial step in the design of Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) circuits. However, most existing methods are heuristic algorithms, which cannot conjointly optimize subproblems global routing, resulting congestion and overflow. In response to this challenge, an enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning- (DRL-) based router has been proposed, comprises following effective strategies. First, avoid overestimation problem generated by Q -learning, proposed adopts Double id="M2"> -Network (DDQN) model. The DDQN-based better performance wire length optimization convergence. Second, agent from learning redundant information, action elimination method added selection part, significantly enhances convergence training process. Third, unfair allocation resources serial training, concurrent enhance routability. Fourth, reduce disperse resources, new reward function guide learn solutions regarding standard deviation. Experimental results demonstrate that algorithm outperforms others several important metrics, including length, performance, routability, conclusion, DRL-based promising approach for solving VLSI design, can achieve superior compared router.
